It was my grandfather’s favorite brand when the mater concerned about cameras. Even my father likes it. As for myself, I am really fond of it; I am speaking about – Pentax. An international brand of high performing imaging and optical products and services, this company has beautifully managed to impress its customers, generation after generation. The range of the products, their designs and color patterns, the hoard of features and related facilities altogether make its products highly priced possessions and the owners feel proud about them. Over the years it has nicely diversified its business and currently going strong in different avenues.

In the year 1952, the first SLR camera in Japan was released by this company. That was really a path-breaking innovation that established it as a premier brand in the field of photography and paved its way into more complex models with added features.

Pentax has got clear vision when targeting the different sections of the consumers. It has got two broad bases of customers that it always aims to maintain and continuously expand. The first one constitutes professional photographers and the second one constitutes amateurish and novice photographers. The cameras with heavy features and complex settings are mainly for the professional photographers who generally shoot commercial and public offices. The cameras with less features but good styles and convenience, tailor made to be used casually are for those photographers who are amateur and simply want to nurture this wonderful activity. Due to obvious reasons, the price of the cameras for the professional photographers is more, and that for the novices is less.

The company has full-fledged existence in three continents – Asia, Europe and North America. The business expands in different nations in these continents and the consumers are happy with the quality of services and products provided by it.

Like any other cameras, the cameras from the house of Pentax too need good care and careful handling in order to maintain their quality and high performance. Casual handling, using it in dusty surrounding and not cleaning it on a regular basis, and going for routine servicing of the set are few major factors that make the camera under- perform.

You must always go the reputed shops that deal in genuine photography devices in order to purchase these cameras. Don’t forget to test every possible feature of the set. In that way, you ensure yourself of not being foxed by being sold poor quality material. The Pentax cameras have the capacity to take absolutely stunning photographs of any subject at any given angle and in any environmental condition.

More information on Pentax cameras can be found on my website at http://pentaxdigitalcameras.org. I strongly suggest that you check it out if you are looking for Pentax digital cameras.

Pentax Camera FAQ:

Question: Where can I get the battery changed for my asahi pentax k1000 camera…ie the light meter?
The light meter isn’t working and I can’t find a place to change it for me. I know it needs a LR44 battery but ritz camera and radio shack were no help.

Answer: LR44 is very common. Check hardware shops, photo shops, drugstores and watch repair shops. You can change it yourself. All you need is a small coin to open the hatch at the bottom of the camera. Take note of the battery orientation before you pull the old ones out.

Question: Does anyone know if some one made a conversion kit for a Pentax film SLR to a digital camera?
I hate to abandon my Pentax film camera, it’s a Super program SLR. I wandered if a replacement CCD back kit to convert it to the digital age.

Answer: No. Leica tried that about four years ago. The back cost more than a DSLR camera, so after a couple of years, Leica dropped that product.

Just buy a good Pentax DSLR and use the lenses you have on both. I still have 3, 35 mm SLR’s which I use from time to time.

Question: How do you set the aperture on a pentax 35mm film camera when using a Tamron lens?
It’s a Pentax ZX-M and the lens is a Tamron 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6. I don’t know how to set the aperture. I’m trying to do shallow DOF and great DOF, but when I set the aperture and move the zoom, the aperture changes.

Answer: Your question should actually be “how do you MAINTAIN the aperture you have set”. The answer is you can’t. Look at the specs on your lens. When an aperture is stated as 3.5 – 5.6, that means it is not a constant aperture lens. Those specs mean the minimum aperture will change to those values as you zoom the lens. At it’s widest angle, the aperture can be set to 3.5, but if you zoom it out, it WILL by design change to 5.6. You can, however, set an aperture of any number higher than 5.6, and it will maintain it throughout the zoom range.

A zoom lens that does NOT change aperture is known as a CONSTANT APERTURE lens. It would state an aperture spec of for instance 2.8, and if you set it there, it will maintain it throughout the range. These lenses are MUCH larger, MUCH heavier, and MUCH more expensive.

There is nothing wrong with your camera, lens, or you, it is simply the normal design of the lens.

Question: Which is the best Pentax camera?
I’m looking to get a good Pentax DSLR camera. I go camping alot so I need one that is durable and since I don’t have a power source it needs to be able to use AA batteries. I want fast shutter speed and pretty good picture quality. If there is any other type of camera list that as well.

Answer: I would recommend the Pentax K-x for around $550. Its shutter speed can go up to 1/6000 seconds and it uses four AA batteries. I know someone who’s had this camera and I can tell they’re really pleased with it. Also, it’s weather sealed and you can use any K-mount lens made since 1975 on it. Of course there will be some limitations with the older manual focus lenses but you can use them. Please understand that weather sealed does not mean you can take the K-x swimming. Plus, you can get it in Red, White or Black.

Question: On a pentax 35mm film camera, when you set your aperture is it supposed to show the correct aperture when you go to check the light meter?
I have a ZX-M model.

Answer: It’s on the right when you look through the viewfinder, second set of numbers from the top (if not, change your batteries). You can look it up on page eight in the manual.

Question: What is a good value of money Pentax Wide Angle lens?
Just looking for a good lens for my new pentax camera, preferably a wide angle lens, but I’m not really sure where to start looking as there are so many options!

Answer: Look on ebay for an older K mount lens, or a WA lens that has a m42 screw mount, as m42-k mount adaptors are cheap.

Question: I have a pentax mz50 slr film camera. Is there any way to transfer my photos onto my pc?
It’s a great camera and I have taken some pictures that I wish to load onto my PC. The camera is one of the old school cameras that uses film. Is there a way to transfer copies of some of my pics to my pc so that I can send them friends. Some advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer: You’ll need to use a scanner to scan your pictures. If you have one (and you have a Windows PC) you can scan them with the built in Paint program. (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Paint) Open Paint and click ‘File’ and choose, ‘Camera or Scanner’ for each of your photos. After Scanning, choose: ‘File’ then select ‘Save’ (Choose a Name for your photo) and save it to your: ‘Pictures’ folder.

All of your pictures will be saved as a .jpeg file. You can then share them as you like. A scanner for just photos can be purchased or you can purchase an all in one printer.

Question: Does anyone know anything about old Pentax cameras?
I have an old Pentax camera, given to me by my mother. It’s around 20 years old. I’m looking to getting into photography, but my mother said I should find out if I really like photography by using an old camera before she’ll help me out buying a new one. So I’m stuck with this old one… It’s a Pentax IQZoom 900. I tried googling it, but found nothing. Maybe I’m not looking hard enough, but it’d be great if someone could help me out. I don’t know much about cameras, which is why my mother gave me this old one. Does anyone know anything about old Pentax cameras or how to use them?

Answer: This is the 35 mm version of a P&S camera which do not allow the user any real control over the exposure.

If you really want to get “into” photography, look into buying a nice used 35 mm SLR and standard lens, about $150 on craigslist in a city near you.

That said, you can learn how to compose using this camera, so when you do buy a 35 mm SLR camera later, you will be able to concentrate on learning how to produce perfect exposures every time you press the shutter release.

DSLR Camera FAQ:

Question: What’s the best DSLR camera for someone visually impaired?
I have to take a Communication Photography class next semester and the department is all digital now so I’m required to use a DSLR camera. I have absolutely no experience with them. I also have a visual impairment, my vision is only 20/200. I also want to keep things on the lower end of the price scale, though I understand that these cameras are expensive.

Answer: Any camera that offers a live view feature where the shooter does not depend on the viewfinder. The entry level SLR’s for Canon certainly have them.

Question: What is a good and easy to use dslr camera?
I want to buy a dslr camera but I do not know what one to get. I want one that is easy to use. I am not a professional photographer I just want a camera that will give me great quality pictures. I want to take pictures of my family and stuff. And also is there a dslr camera that also has good quality video.

Answer: DSLRs are easy to use if you you how to use them. If you don’t know the basics of photography, no dSLR will be easy enough for you aside from the Auto mode. If your looking for a quality DSLR that can take video those would be Nikon D5000 or Canon T1i.

Question: What makes a digital camera a dslr?
I ask this because I got a canon g10 for Christmas, I did not think this was a dslr, (I’ve been reading and looking for tutorials and it lists this camera as a prosumer dslr camera) but it can use lenses. So what exactly makes a camera a dslr? Is it the ability to use lenses, have manual focus, or what?

Answer: You are right about the G10 not being a DSLR. It means a digital single lens reflex and that you are looking through the lens to compose. Your G10 has a rangefinder window where you look through a separate viewfinder but see what the lens sees or you have liveview through the LCD screen.

Question: How long does the battery of a DSLR camera last?
How long does the battery of a DSLR (maybe Nikon D3000 or nikon D40) last? How long does the camera itself last? Also, are there any tips for taking great care of my DSLR? I’m a total newbie any advice is very welcome.

Answer: The battery life will vary with camera, battery and how the photographer shoots. For example, if the camera has a built in flash and it is being used then the battery will run out sooner.

My advice is get the Nikon D3000, it is replacing the D40 and cost about the same. You should be able to get the Nikon D3000 10MP DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens for about $449. I have heard the D3000 has a help menu built into it that is good for beginners.

In fact, many vendors are offering free shipping, some are also including a free SD memory card or camera bag with a DVD guide too. Below are some dealer links to deals I found, you may have to click the “add to cart” link to see the final price. Also the top 2 links are Nikon’s website page for the D3000 and a review of it at dpreview.com.

Question: What is a good DSLR camera for beginners?
I’m looking at Sony but I also like Nikon and Connon. I don’t know what would be a good Camera. I’m not looking for a really expensive camera that is for taking tons of pictures with in seconds. Just something simple and still takes great pictures.

Answer: Here are 3 good options. I would lean toward the Nikon or Canon, they have the most accessories available. I have read the Nikon D3000 has a built in user guide that is really good at helping beginners.

Sony Alpha A230 Digital SLR 10 MP with 18-55mm Lens – $429
Nikon D3000 10MP DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens – $449
EOS Rebel XS 10MP DSLR Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm IS Lens – $449

Question: At how cold temperatures can a DSLR camera work?
How cold can it be before you can mess up a Nikon d3000 DSLR? I just recently acquired one, and I wish to go take some photographs but it’s pretty cold outside.

Answer: Condensation is the biggest problem. Before bringing your equipment back indoors, put it in zip lock bags. Some desiccant inside the bags does not hurt either. Keep the camera / lenses in the bags until they are fully back to room temperature.

Question: Besides a good DSLR camera, what are some other essentials for a start up photographer?
I recently purchased a Nikon D3000 and have been asked by friends to take some photos of their kids because they liked some of the work I’ve done. I am an amateur, but want to continue learning and investing in some necessary accessories but do not want to spend a small fortune on equipment that I won’t use. Any suggestions of what and where to get some good essentials?

Answer: For taking outdoor photos, the most-bang-for-the-buck accessory is a circular polarizing filter. After that would be a tripod.

If you are planning to take indoor portraits, however, some lighting equipment will be necessary for professional level results. The on-camera flash is far too harsh and glaring. Unhappily, depending on what you need that could get into that small fortune category.

Question: What would be a good DSLR camera for me?
I would like to be able to take good quality pictures of my horses and dogs and other animals and things. My Fujifilm F20 se is broken and battered and I have never been blown away by the pictures it is capable of taking. I was thinking about the Canon Rebel XSi but would like to know what else is in the market. My price range is around $500-$600.

Answer: I am a Nikon user and think the D5000 is a good option but actually, in your case I would either get the Canon XSi you mention or just maybe the Pentax K-x DSLR with 18-55mm Zoom that costs about $550 and has the ability to do HD video.

It has been more than 30 years since the seed for the first digital camera was laid by sputnik spacecraft, which necessitated the need for digital camera to transmit images as and when it was taken. It has been an eventful journey to this day when we are venturing into the field of 3D digital photography. Starting from the models which are too huge to even hang on one’s neck, we now have models that are so compact that they can fit into our pockets with great ease. But with this exponential growth, came the dilemma of choosing the best digital camera. That is when the level of photography expertise came into play.

Canon, Kodak, Sony, Olympus and Nikon are some of the leaders in the digital camera business. All these top brands always concentrate on just a few key features that define good digital photograph. Any new model addresses one or more of these features and enhances them.

From novice to professional photographers, megapixel count always holds a sway. But, that is one common mistake we blindly make. Beyond 7 megapixels, it does not in any way increase the clarity of the picture for higher pixels. The difference can only be felt if we are going to take large prints, which will yield different results for different resolutions.

The latest arrival on the digital scene is Leica X1 which was released on December 18th. This German model is a welcome break for the field because it marks a significant period of compact cameras with large sensors. Equipped with 12.2 MP on a CMOS APS-C sensor which offers an angle of view comparable to 35 mm lens, it is highly recommended for professional photographers interested in large prints.

The digital photography world is polarized into the ordinary and expert photographers. For an ordinary user, not used to the technical terms of photography, single-lens reflex camera is an obfuscation. The more the manual features are, the greater are the chances of flexibility offered for the photographers. Hence the DSLR and SLR camera have plenty of manual functions to adjust every feature such as aperture, ISO, exposure settings and many more. Canon digital cameras are into the noble task of blurring the line between professional and novice users.

The Canon Powershot series is preferred by all categories of photography enthusiasts. The new arrival in the Powershot family, Powershot G11 is indeed promising with its increased manual mode, high zoom range and sturdy build. Released almost around the same time, Canon Powershot A1100 IS caters to the requirements of cost-conscious photographers and beginners. However it never fails the user expectations. It has the face recognition and scene recognition features too.

Affordability may not be the first thing in the minds of true photography buffs. But, if comparable features are provided then, it is natural that the more affordable camera will be picked. This is what is tapped by the latest Pentax-k7 which is a greatly affordable DSLR camera which poses serious threat to Nikon and Canon in the DSLR scene. Compared to bulky DSLRs like Nikon D300 and Olympus E-3, the pentax-k7 is a small, compact and light DSLR in the market.

Another exciting feature is, it demonstrates that if we can watch HD prints then we can shoot HD prints as well. Yes! The sensor offers live view as well as the ability to capture HD video.

The latest digital camera with lots of enhancements does not mean the best of features. It is a need-driven market where the best camera for our need should be opted for. If natural scenery brings an enthusing feeling, then a digital camera with minimum 6x zoom is preferred. So, a Canon Powershot is more desirable than a Canon IXUS, in spite of the latter being the most compact of the two because Powershot serves our purpose better in this case. Ask yourself a set of questions on what is actually the requirement and then shortlist the cameras based on the requirements and budget constraints. Make sure to get the latest and the best. Click away with joy!

Digital Camera FAQ:

Question: Is there anything a Digital camera can never replace in a Film camera?
A few years ago, people wondered whether they should go film or digital. Most of the reasons to go for film had to do with price, and the equipment you need.

But after a few years, it became clear that for the average person, there was very little reason to buy film cameras instead of digital ones. The only thing I can think of that a digital camera can’t ever replace is that some film cameras don’t need energy.

So aside from electricity to use it, is there any feature in film cameras that can never be replaced by digital cameras?

Answer: To the average person, the advantage of film is non-existent. Take a picture of a white wedding gown in front of an equally white background. Film will easily show a continuous spectrum from light gray to white. Try getting that in digital.

At present, saturation characteristics of film versus digital. Film saturates in a friendly manner. Digital hard clips which causes noticeable color shifts in the saturated region. Who knows, technology may be able to reduce the saturation problems in digital camera in the future.

Question: What kind of digital camera I need to buy to take good quality close up pictures?
I bought a new digital camera from Kodak (12.2 pixels and 3x zoom ) but still isn’t good enough to take good close up pictures of my miniatures (is like a small ring). Wonder if is it the right camera? Should I exchange it for another?

Answer: Your ordinary garden-variety camera focusses down to about 3 ft. To get closer than that, you need a camera with -macro- capability. Look for that in the brochure or the instructions. Your camera may have a macro mode, but then it might not be quite extreme enough to fill the frame with something as small as a ring. Some cameras have macro and super-macro mode. My camera (Canon) can focus right up to the actual surface of the lens!

Taking pictures that close-up presents certain difficulties. The camera can actually get in its own light, so the subject can be in shadow unless you’re careful. And at that close a distance you have no depth of field, so it’s hard to get the whole thing in focus. So if you really want to do it right, it would be nice to have a manual exposure mode where you can set the f-stop to the smallest aperture to give you the maximum depth of field. This, of course, requires either much more light or a long exposure, so a small table-top tripod might be a nice thing, to hold the camera steady through a long exposure. You can light miniatures pretty well with a couple of small desk lamps, or on a table beside a window, with a white card or sheet of paper on the other side to reflect some light into the shadows.

Question: How can you transfer files from your digital camera to the memory card?
I took some videos on my digital camera when the memory card was in my computer cuz I was downloading pics and forgot to put the card back in the camera. So now my friends would like to see the videos we took while snowboarding on Mt. Hood but the videos are stuck in my camera and I need to download them to the computer. And I can’t find the cable that connects it.

Answer: The easiest and best method to download photos and video from your camera to your computer is via a little USB card reader (which are quite cheap these days). Card readers also work for moving photos from the computer onto a card. This applies to video, too.

Plug the reader into a USB port and insert the memory card. It will show up as a drive, and you can simply drag and drop the photos across to the folder of your choice.

However, don’t expect to view them on your camera. The downloading itself (and even more so any changes you might have made to the file) changes something in the file. As a result, many cameras no longer recognize it. Besides, memory cards aren’t meant for permanent storage, and there are MANY better ways to display photos than on your tiny screen. But it can come in handy if you just want to transfer a few photos onto the card so you can get them printed.

Question: What makes a Leica camera so special?
I have heard a lot recently about how “excited” people are over their Leica cameras. I’ve looked for some info about them, and found nothing special, other than the fact that they are insanely expensive. So, what makes it any better than a Nikon or Canon?

Answer: The answer is very simple. Quality of build.

Leica cameras have a reputation as the very best built in the small format range. If you are a purist and want the very best quality you can buy, you will buy a Leica. For a professional it is an investment in the quality of work s/he will be able to produce.

Expensive? Very as a hobby camera. Value for money cannot be beat.

Question: Is there a way to shoot objects behind glass with a digital camera?
I’m starting to work with a Nikon Coolpix P5100 digital camera. Problem is, we want to shoot objects like maps and newspapers behind glass – sorry a sheet of acrylic material – in order to flatten them. The camera focuses automatically each time, and each time the focus is a bit off. Is there a way to correct this? So far, the Nikon website has not provided any useful answers.

Answer: I’m going to make an assumption here and suggest the focus isn’t ‘off’, it’s because you’re not dead square to the subject and you’re seeing two images – the real and the refracted image in the acrylic. You’ll have to shoot square-on to them and not use flash. See if that improves it.

Question: What is the most important thing to look at when buying an SLR digital camera?
I want to buy an SLR digital camera. I want one that is best for its price, but unfortunately I have limited money to spend considering I only have a part time job at a book store. So what is the most important quality or thing should I be looking at? The most money I am willing to spend is 500-600 dollars. Can you recommend a good camera for that price range?

Answer: I’m not sure there is one important quality you should be looking for, but I can tell you which one not to be distracted by: megapixels. Megapixels don’t matter. (well, at least not as long as you get 6 or more, and as long as you’re not shooting fashion models for billboards.)

having eliminated that, focus on ergonomics. How it feels in your hands and whether you can reach and find all the controls. Then, look at speed. How long does it actualy take to take each picture, and how long between pictures? How fast can it focus? Don’t count focus points, I’ve always felt that more of those just complicate things and ruin my pictures.

Go to a camera store. Not a Best Buy, where the sales people think megapixels matter and the cameras are all but bolted to the counter, but a store run by an amateur photographer who will let you handle and shoot each camera.

Personally, I would recommend a Nikon D40 or D60 or a Canon Rebel. The Nikon D3000 is not a terrible choice either but the D60 takes better pictures for less money if you can find one.

Question: Is there a Digital SLR similar to the Rangefinder Leica M8?
I love that the Leica M8 has all the knobs of old cameras, is there a DSLR that also has knobs like the M8?

Answer: The Leica Digilux 3 and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 are the closest it gets. There’s a knob for shutter speed adjustment and select lenses (mentioned below) have physical aperture rings.

They’re basically the same camera with finish, firmware, processing, and warranty differences. Only Panny/Leica Four-Thirds lenses have aperture rings. The following are such lenses:
- 14-50mm f/2.8-3.5
- 14-150mm f/3.5-5.6
- 25mm f/1.4

The aperture ring does not function on any other Four-Thirds DSLR body. On such bodies, the aperture is adjusted using the normal body controls.

Whilst a popular photography brand with many dedicated followers, Pentax’s real forte was the age of 35mm film SLR camera and so when digital SLRs began to become popular, it took several years for Pentax to catch up to the market leaders, Nikon and Canon. When they did arrive, however, they arrived in style and since their first digital SLR was introduced to the market in 2003, their popularity has snowballed, to the extent that many traditional Nikon and Canon photographers have converted to a Pentax SLR camera.

To compete with the top two companies and to ensure that they gain as wide of a market reach as possible, there is a Pentax SLR camera available to suit the majority of people’s needs, which can make choosing one somewhat of a complicated process.

For the keen amateur photographer who is looking to increase their photography capabilities and move from a compact point and shoot to their first digital SLR, the Pentax K-x is highly recommended. Recently released in October 2009, this Pentax SLR camera is different from other entry level SLRs, for a variety of reasons.

Taking its color as an example, the traditional coloring of a digital SLR is black and this can be seen across the board in the majority of SLRs currently on the market. The Pentax K-x, however, is not only available in black, but white, red and navy, too, with the intention of appealing to greater audience.

Further to this, it comes with a particularly cheap price tag of around $650 including a kit lens and it has also been created to be powered effectively off of standard AA size batteries. This means that no charger is required and a photographer can guarantee that they will never lose power by simply keeping two AA batteries in their camera bag.

To cater for those who are looking for slightly more in their Pentax SLR camera, the K20D should meet the needs of any serious amateur photographer, as well as acting as a good quality second camera for a professional photographer.

Coming in at $1170, the Pentax K20D was put on the market in February 2008 and boasts a considerable 14.6 mega pixels. With particular care being taken to ensure that the K20D can be used competently outdoors, it includes a weather proof body, has dust control features and a fantastic image stabilization feature.

It has to be noted that Pentax have not yet ventured effectively into the full professional photography market, although they do have some high quality top end SLR cameras, such as the recently released K-7.

Costing in excess of $1200, the K-7, like many SLRs that are coming onto the market, has the capability to record High Definition video, up to 30fps and with a resolution of 1526 x 1024.

In addition, the K-7 comes with a weather resistant 18-55mm lens as standard, with the option to upgrade to the 50-200 weather resistant lens if preferred.

It may seem to some that Pentax are not pushing boundaries with their SLR cameras, but more trying to keep up with their larger rivals. However, Pentax are currently producing some high quality SLR cameras and it is predicted by many professional photographers that they will be competing with Nikon and Canon for a place in the top two within the next few years.

Pentax Kx FAQ:

Question: First DSLR: Canon Xsi, Pentax Kx or other. Under $1,000. Not shooting sports/high speed as much as people?
I am looking for my first DSLR. I think I narrowed it down to the Canon Xsi or the Pentax Kx but am still open. Want to stay under $1,000 but willing to go that high when you add up the memory card, tax, and all the rest. Don’t shoot a lot of high speed or sports, but some “kids in action”. Want some control, I used to do a lot of SLR film work, but want to get good fidelity in simple point and shoot as well. Advice?

Answer: Any one of the entry level DSLR cameras will suit your needs quite well. It becomes a matter of personal preference. One person may like Canon and another may like Nikon. You need to handle the cameras and see which feels best in your hands.

Go to dpreview.com and compare the different cameras in your price range using the side by side comparison. Read the reviews, and study the sample images, then go to a store and try out the models you are interested in. Play with the controls and look through the menus. Buy the one you feel is most comfortable for you.

Question: What price of Pentax KX?
I want to buy Pentax KX but don’t know the price.

Answer: I know in the US, the Pentax K-x 12MP DSLR with 18-55mm Zoom costs about $550.

Question: What is better a pentax kx or pentax k7?

Answer: Better for what? Kx is an entry level camera, while k7 is a high level model for enthusiasts or semi-pros. On paper, the k7 is the best by far. The best for you? Who knows.

Question: What type of tripod for a pentax kx?

Answer: The mount for tripods is standard on all cameras/tripods so any tripod will fit your camera.

Question: How does lens size work exactly?
I’ve recently been taking photos (amateur still) and am currently using a Pentax Kx entry level camera with an 18-55 mm lens. My questions are:

What kind of camera lenses should I invest in if I want to get into Macro photography and Landscape photography?

How does the lens size work exactly?

What advantages does a smaller lens have over a larger one (and visa versa) and in which situations should you use one over the other?

Answer: Macro is a different animal and requires a lens with that feature – there are several made for Pentax and probably by 3rd party makers such as Tamron. There are lenses that combine macro with the standard lens features – they’re more expensive but will do the job nicely.

Lens size is based on millimeters as you can tell by the notations for the lens. It’s basically this.
The distance from the front element to a point for the light converges to meet with the film or sensor.
When you add zoom that extends that distance so the numbers go up. That’s about the easiest way I know to explain it here.

Advantages of smaller or larger. As I was trying to explain above smaller and larger exist in one lens, in various sizes. I chose the 18-200 because it meets my needs. There are bigger lenses out there that are fairly wide at the bottom, a 25-300 for example and bigger. I’d rather have one of these than several others simply because of changing the lenses and chancing getting dust or dirt on my sensor. You do make sacrifices with larger lenses like mine. They’re slower in f/stop simply because of their size. That, normally, doesn’t effect me, I just shoot around it.

Question: Why Pentax k-x has low price even it has very good specifications ?
Pentax k-x has very good specifications, some of them are even better than k-7 and k-20 (such as flash range and Movie frame size) but also has a lower price by a big percent. I know it has a fiber reinforced plastic that makes the light weight and it lost the weather protection which included in k-7 and k-20 but i think that would not reduce the cost by this percent. Even the low quality of LCD (2.7 in , 230k) would not do that. Do you have any other opinion or idea and do you prefer to buy according to its price and specifications?

Answer: In the film days Pentax was a major in the market. Since the digital revolution they are not and may be trying to get into the market in a big way.

I’d be very careful. Lower price generally means lower quality in everything in the device from lens to sensor to small parts.

As you know Canon, Nikon and Fuji are the world leaders in this technology for many good reasons, quality is one of them.

Question: Is the Pentax K-x a good camera for skateboarding photography?
comes with a pentax 50-200mm f/4-5.6 ED lens and a 18-55mm lens.

Answer: Sure, any DSLR can be used to shoot action photography of any kind.

While those lenses have an excellent range, many “skateboarding” photographers like to use extreme wide angle lenses, even fisheye lenses.

Pentax makes two lenses that may fit into your style of shooting. The ultra wide angle 15 mm and the Pentax 10-17 mm “fisheye” zoom

Question: Thinking about purchasing the Pentax K-X with 18-55 lens..can I use a macro with this lens to shoot jewelry?
Pentax K-X SLR camera..comes with an 18-55 lens..does anyone know if I can shoot close-ups with this lens by just changing the setting on the camera? I would like to photograph large objects, such as a chair..and change the setting quick to photograph the details on a ring or piece of jewelry..and have fine details picked up.

Answer: Cheap add-on lenses are going to give you a couple of things that product photography abhors. Soft edges and either barrel or pincushion distortion.

I could ask if this is the first time you have used a fully adjustable camera before (which by nature uses interchangeable lenses), but I think it would be moot.

If you goal is to shoot both “regular” things like landscapes, people and a little portraiture as well as small items like jewelry, you need a proper macro lens like the Pentax 50 mm f/2.8 macro lens and a tripod, light tent and some lighting.

What you are describing is what one can expect on a P&S camera with an all in one lens (since you cannot change them), but now you are in an area that versatility is the goal of a photographers choice of tools and you are going to have to be prepared to buy the tools you need for each type photography.

The Pentax brand brings to mind a lot of memories for many photographers, enthusiasts or semi-pro, who began with a K1000, KM, Spotmatic, or ME Super. Pentax’s position in the market is not as good as it was during the prime of 35mm film. But still, Pentax continues to attract a legion of photography enthusiasts.

We now have the latest Pentax K-7, the company’s latest semi-pro/ enthusiast level DSLR. It is a handsome creature, replacing the Pentax K20D’s slightly plump utilitarianism by a pared-down and sleek elegance.

Read on for the Pentax K-7 review.

Many photographers will include the Pentax K-7 on their wish list. Here are some of the highlights of this DSLR: 720p/1080i HD video recording, smaller steel/magnesium alloy body, updated sensor with four-channel readout, and 3-inch VGA (920,000 dot) LCD screen.

The Pentax K-7 also features an enhanced viewfinder with greater coverage (although less magnified) and a shutter mechanism with a shutter speed of 1/8000th. The DSLR also sports and AF illumination lamp and a much faster continuous shooting of up to 5.3 frames per second. What is more, this camera features 77 segment exposure metering sensor and a new dust removal system.

These are just some of the big stuff; the implications of these changes are almost as significant as the apparent effects of these changes. This DSLR camera now has faster videos and frame rates. Also, the enhanced 4-channel sensor makes less noise as compared to the Pentax K20D version.

Moreover, the Pentax K-7 has many more subtle upgrades and additions that reveal just how fundamental a change the camera is from its predecessors. It has an improved ISO button, three-shot built-in HDR capture, and distortion and chromatic and aberration correction for DA and DFA also found in RAW conversion. It is a great idea to buy Pentax K-7.

The Pentax K-7 also features an adjustable shadow correction and dynamic range highlight. As with composition adjustment, it uses the SR system in repositioning the sensor to fine-tune the composition.

However you look at this baby, it is a well-specified DSLR. Pentax K-7 price: $1,299.95. If your fingers are itching to buy a Pentax K-7 visit our website for more information and DSLR reviews. We are happy to help you.

Pentax FAQ:

Question: Is the Pentax k1000 the perfect film camera?
I have a canon ae1. However, there’s this ad for the Pentax k1000 in my area on craigslist for $50. Is this a deal? I’ve heard it is a great student camera. Would it be worth it to have 2 manual film cameras?

Answer: In my opinion having 2 35mm film cameras only makes sense if they both use the same lenses.

Now if the K1000 comes with a couple of lenses and you plan to eventually buy a DSLR then the K1000 would be a good deal. Why? Because the Pentax K20D and K200D DSLRs can still use the older manual focus K-mount lenses from the K1000.

Of course, you could keep black & white film in the Pentax and color film in the AE1. Or ISO 100 film in one and ISO 400 film in the other.

Question: Where can I find a macro lens for a Pentax Spotmatic from 1963?
I’m a beginning photographer and I have my father’s old Pentax Spotmatic. I have a wide angle but really want a macro for close ups. Anyone know where I could find one that would fit this old camera? Are the pentax lenses for newer cameras interchangeable?

Answer: Narrow your search to “screw mount” Pentax lenses. That’s the only thing that’ll work on the Spotmatics.

No, the newer “K mount” Pentax lenses won’t fit.

Question: How come my Pentax Me Super pictures came out blurry?
I just recently received a Pentax ME super camera from a friend of our family. It had some left over film in it, and I took some pictures using up that film. But when I developed them, they all turned out blurry, besides one, Why do you think that happened?

Answer: A number of factors can account for blurriness. Camera shake, motion of the subject(s), out of focus, and too shallow DOF can all cause blurry pictures.

Question: Where can I find a part to a Pentax Asahi ME camera?
A friend has a Pentax Asahi ME SLR camera, quite old, and it is missing the screw that holds the film winder on. Does anyone know where I find that screw?

Answer: Try to call Pentax, I did it and got a new focusing screen a few years back. If not possible go to a repair shop and ask them to order it for you or may be they have some spare parts to sell.

Question: How good are the Pentax DSLRs, particularly the 200D?
I am upgrading from a Canon Powershot S60 to a DSLR. I am considering a Nikon D60 and a Canon EOS Rebel Xsi; but I am also considering the Pentax 200D. Bells and whistles are unimportant, all I’m really concerned with is image quality. Does the Pentax hold its own or not. I have searched and searched and can’t seem to find any truly objective evaluation.

Answer: The problem with the Pentax entry level DSLR’s is they do NOT use the state of the art Li-ion batteries. Their better DSLR’s like the K10D and K20D do, but they are NOT entry level cameras. They are sub-$1000 camera bodies and in that arena the Nikon D90 is the king ….

At present the most bang for the buck is the Nikon D40 with 18-55 mm lens .. Under $450 on Amazon.

Question: Is Pentax known as a good quality company?
I wanted to buy a camera for my boyfriends birthday but I didn’t know exactly which one to buy. I compared some kinds together and I was attracted to the Pentax Optio V20. I was just wondering if anyone knows if it’s a good company? From what I have read, it seems very good.

Answer: Pentax is equal in quality to any other camera brand. They don’t advertise as heavily as brands like Canon or Nikon, which is why they are less widely known. I was told by a camera store employee that they are more popular outside of the U.S.A.

Question: What are the pros and cons of the Pentax K200D?

Answer: The biggest advantage of the K200D over other cameras is that it is the smallest and lightest weathersealed DSLR ever made.

The biggest disadvantage of the K200D compared to other choices is slow autofocus in dim light. You can speed it up by popping up the built-in flash, which operates as a focus-assist light. The K2000/K-m has faster auto-focus in dim light.

Question: How do you change the film in a 1978 pentax-m camera?
My grandfather has this awesome camera, a 1978 pentax- camera. I’m positive it still works, he barely used it. It hasn’t been messed with in a while and every other part I’ve taken off the camera has been really difficult to remove, it’s just old. And I have no idea what kind of film it takes and I have no idea how to get the film in there. I don’t even know how to open the camera.

Answer: Take the camera into a camera store and they will help you learn to load and unload the film … if you are nice they may even show you how to use the lightmeter.

Pentax Optio P70 Review

The Pentax Optio P70 is a 12 megapixel digital camera with a 4x optical zoom lens. It is small enough to slip into most pockets. With plenty of competition around the big question is why would you buy the Optio P70 instead of one of the many other pocket digital cameras?

Most of these smaller compacts tend to have a similar set of features. One feature that I do not see all that often is manual focusing. This is included with the Optio P70 along with pan focusing. Ideally manual focusing would be controlled through twisting a focusing ring on the end of a lens barrel. This is the method used with Digital SLR cameras and is the easiest and quickest method to use. With a smaller camera like this one some compromises need to be made and manual focusing is controlled by pushing buttons on the back of the camera. If you are an experienced photographer this may not be ideal, but it is better than the feature not being there at all. Pan focusing comes in useful for tracking moving subjects.

More gimmick like features include a smile shutter and blink detection. If you turn on smile shutter the Optio P70 will automatically fire off a shot if it detects someone is smiling. With blink detection a warning message is given if the camera detects someone in the picture blinked.

After a photo has been taken there are some extra features that become available. These include being able to apply one of 11 colour filters, being able to soften the focus and being able to adjust the brightness of the shot. In addition you can record short voice memos to help you remember any important information about the shot. If you have taken a portrait shot using flash then red eye compensation can be applied to try and remove it.

Pentax has also included a High Definition movie mode. In my view this does not replace the need for a camcorder. After all you cannot zoom in and out while recording, but it can come in useful if you would like to shoot a short movie clip, but a camcorder is not readily available.

One area where I was left a little disappointed was with the macro mode. You are only able to focus from 10cm away from the subject. Most similar cameras allow you to focus from around 5cm. This is certainly a drawback if you are interested in taking close up shots with the Optio P70. This is a shame as the picture quality produced in macro mode is actually quite good.

A couple of points about the lens are that it is a wide angle lens and you can also increase the amount of zoom when shooting at lower resolutions. A wide angle lens helps you to squeeze greater width into a shot, so this can make sweeping landscapes even more dramatic or help you to squeeze more people into a group shot. I like the fact more zoom is available at lower resolutions. The way digital cameras have been marketed since their introduction tends to suggest the more megapixels you use the better the picture quality will be. This is not necessarily the case, so you should not worry about shooting at lower resolutions. A further advantage is that each image will eat up less space on a memory card.

In terms of pricing Pentax appear to have placed the Optio P70 somewhere between two stools. So it is a fair bit cheaper than expensive models like the Canon IXUS 100 IS, but still cost more than cheaper options like the Panasonic Lumix DMC FS6. Based on picture quality I feel Pentax has set the price a little on the high side.

Pentax Optio FAQ:

Question: What settings to use on a pentax optio E40, to get the best results?

Answer: First, take some time to actually READ & STUDY the Owner’s Manual for your camera. You may find that if you just leave it in the “Green Mode” you’ll get good results. As you learn more about your camera you’ll know how to use the other settings.

Question: Which camera would you say was the better one? The Pentax Optio Z10 or the Fujifilm Z100fd?
I was looking for a camera that was good in most conditions. From low lit concerts to bright, outdoors pictures.

Answer: If you want to shoot in low light, either buy a DSLR or get a Canon G10 (DSLR is still better). Most P&S cams suck in low light.

Question: How do you change the white balance on a pentax optio 430?
I’m trying to take some pictures for my digital photography class, and all the inside shots are turning out orange. what button do I push or where do I twist the knob thing on top to change the white balance?

Answer: Have a look in your camera’s instruction manual. Normally it’s in the menu or function button>white balance. Then you can either select incandescent to match the light conditions or set manual/custom white balance by taking a picture of a white card then recomposing the shot.

Question: What is a better digital camera, a Pentax optio m50 or a Sony DSC-W120?
Price doesn’t really matter so whatever is best. I will be using this camera for taking pictures on trips with my friends. I will not be using it for professional use.

Answer: Sony W120 is highly recommended by dpreview.com.

Question: How to take professionally looking photos with Pentax Optio digital?
Or at least close to professional looking. What I take now is bad, and editing does not help: out of focus, grainy and so on.

Answer: Taking pro-looking images on a point-and-shoot is possible. Here’s what I would try:
-Use manual settings, I shoot Av (aperture priority) on my SLR about 75% of the time.
-Use the lowest ISO your camera can have. This will get rid of the grain.
-Take several shots to reduce focus issues.
-Use a tripod – it will help a LOT.
-Master lighting. Don’t use the cheesy on-board flash. There is a way to trigger off camera flash using this flash, but it’s a project.
-Without flash, use sunlight creatively. Use reflectors. On a budget, you can use those large sheets of foam board for only a couple bucks each.

Question: Does the Pentax Optio S10 digital camera have a black and white mode?

Answer: Just taking a quick browse on some spec sites I can find no mention of a black and white mode, so it may not have one.

Actually, you are always much better off to shoot in color, then convert to b/w later in photoshop. You have better control and can produce much better looking black and white conversions than the camera will do. Plus, you have the original photo in color if you need/want it in the future. Shoot in black and white, and that is all you will ever have.

Question: I dropped my Pentax Optio a30 on the ground! Any way for repairing it?
I dropped the camera on the ground, and now when I switch it on, it is totally white, but the green light indicates that the camera is on. I have tried taking out and replacing both the battery and memory card, but that doesn’t seem to work.

Answer: R.I.P. Pentax Optio A30. Unfortunately the cost of repair will likely equal or exceed the cost of a new camera.

When you get your new camera, attach the wrist strap and keep it tethered to your wrist. Then you won’t drop it.

Question: Need help with making a movie off of a pentax optio E30 digital camera!?
I have recorded all of the videos and I want to put them together to make a movie using windows movie maker. But every time I try to watch one clip I hear all of the audio and there is a blank black screen. How do I fix this.

Answer: Usually when the video and audio are out of sinc, it’s because of the downloading process, if it’s a minidv camcorder you need a firewire connection. Your PC probably doesn’t have firewire port, but you can buy one and install it. You will also need to buy a firewire cord.

Have you ever washed your digital camera? Left it in the car on a hot day? Knocked it off a table? Put it in the refrigerator instead of the beer? Well for those who are a little forgetful or accident prone, the rugged Pentax Optio W80 is just what you need. It’s rugged and tough, just like an old-time cowboy – rain, dust, cold and heat won’t stop it.

Here are some of the W80’s features:

• 2.5 inch LCD monitor with anti-reflective coating
• Can be submerged to a depth of 16 feet for two hours
• Functions in temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius and as high as 40 degrees Celsius.
• Record HD movies at 30 frames per second even underwater
• Optical 5X zoom lens allowing for shots from 28mm wide angle to 140mm telephoto.
• Close-ups as near as 1 cm.
• Triple anti-shake protection
• New D-Range setting helps prevent under-exposed and over-exposed images.
• Fast Face Detection with Smile Capture mode, and Blink Detection function.
• Pixel Track Shake Reduction
• 20 digital filters to vary visual effects
• Storage on SD or SDHC cards
• Auto Picture mode for automatic selection of eight different shooting modes

For those who are a little careless or just a little too adventurous, The Pentax Optio W80 gives you the chance to pursue those hard-to-get pictures you always missed before. With anti-shake, auto-focus and a rugged go-anywhere attitude, the Pentax Optio W80 will get the job done wherever and however you need it. Pick which color you prefer: Azure Blue, Cardinal Red or Gunmetal Gray.

Now the only decision you’ll need to make is whether to go on safari, scuba dive, or ski.

Pentax Optio FAQ:

Question: Does the pentax optio w30 make a clicking sound in video mode?
I have read a many reviews for the Pentax Optio w30 digital camera and one of the reviews stated that there was a clicking noise during video mode. This is the only reason that I am hesitant to buy this camera

Answer: It could be the microphone picking up the noise of the auto-focus mechanism.

Question: Can a Pentax Optio MX 4 camera take SDHC cards?
I have a Pentax Optio MX 4 camera and would like to use a card with a capacity higher than 2 GB. Is this possible?

Answer: Yes.

Question: How can I create my own Frames for the Pentax Optio M20?
I would like to use some selfmade frames on my Pentax Optio M20.
But always when I try to use them it tells me that it can’t read the Picture.I’ve even tried to make the Frames similar to the Original(size and colors) but it still doesn’t work. What should I do?

Answer: Electronic cameras don’t like frames. It’s really hard to jam them into the card slots. I’ve broken cameras trying to insert chrome frames. I think next time I’ll just use an imaging program to add frames after I take the pictures. Why I was so stupid to try and put frames into the camera I don’t know. I guess I didn’t realize that the camera is for taking pictures not framing them.

Question: What are the most common problems with the Pentax Optio A30?

Answer: The three most common complaints about this camera are, in this order:

- Noise (ISO performance)
- Battery life
- Video quality

Question: How can I stop my Pentax Optio S7 camera taking blurry photos?
No matter what I do most of my photos come out blurry. When I press the button half down the screen goes blurry and even when I release the button the pictures stays blurry. Its a new camera so I can’t see why it would be doing this! Its the same if I have it on normal or green mode.

Answer: My usual suggestion involves pre-focusing with the “half down” position, so you have some other problem.

Take the camera back where you bought it and tell them about your problem. You may have a defective camera or if not, they will be able to see what’s going on.

Question: Has anyone taken their pentax optio w10 underwater?
I have had this camera for 2 years and I’m still too chicken to take it underwater. Does anyone have this pentax or similar and have taking it snorkeling or just underwater?

Answer: In other forums I found several happy underwater users but also a lot of complaints about the W10 leaking. Even in situations where users stayed well within the guidelines (max. depth 1.5 meters and submerged for less than 30 minutes).

All it takes is one grain of sand in the rubber seal. The W10’s design seems to be considerably more vulnerable than Olympus SW models and dedicated underwater housings. I wouldn’t risk it.

Question: Why does my pentax optio keeps turning off?
I have a pentax optio a30 digital camera and 5 seconds after turning it on it turns it self off for no reason, the battery is charged and last time I used it it worked. It has been looked after so there is no real reason why this should happen, does any body have any ideas?

Answer: It really does sound like a battery problem to me. The battery indicator always shows full when you first turn it on, after a second or two it will show the correct state once it has actually measured it, and your camera is not giving the camera enough time to do that.

If possible try a battery that you know to be good. Clean the battery contacts with an eraser, may be the contacts are just oxidized, you may have accidentally touched the contacts, this always leaves an oily deposit on them.

Question: I have a pentax optio s7 is it possible to charge the battery with a USB cord or not?
I bought a USB cord at wal-mart and the clerk assured me that it would charge the battery in my pentax optio s7 however, when I plugged it into the computer, nothing happened. I am not sure if my battery is just worn out and can’t charge anymore, or if it can’t be charged with a USB cord.

Answer: You really need to call the Pentax help line. Usually none of the good P&S cameras can charge using the small output from a USB port.

SLR (single-lens reflex) cameras are the one of the best and most popular type of camera out there in the electronic world. It is important for a buyer to consider many factors before jumping in and buying a specific SLR camera.

35mm SLR cameras are probably some of the most technologically advanced cameras. There are not many other cameras that allow you to get such high quality pictures while keeping the camera so compact. Also, for the price you pay, you get amazing zoom, macro, and wide angle lenses. Nonetheless, such an amazing camera does come at a hefty price. They can cost upwards of $5000 (U.S.). This is way more than any amount you will pay for even a top brand SLR film camera. You must keep in mind the fact that although it is very expensive; the buyer is getting their moneys worth. With the SLR 35mm Cameras you have more control over pictures. Evidently, all of these cameras use 35mm film, consisting of color negative film for prints, transparency film for slides, as well as black and white, and lastly, infrared film.

Now, when picking a SLR camera, you have two options which include autofocus and manual focus. Most cameras are manufactured with auto focus, and generally manual focus is of more use to advanced photographers. Autofocus does tasks such as following the movement of your eyes so it can focus on what you’re taking a photo of. Some also have a stabilization feature which most photographers find very handy. With the benefits of autofocus do come some negatives. Autofocus cameras tend to use a lot more battery power than a manual camera does. Although the autofocus features claims to track your eye movements, it rarely does so effectively. Lastly, autofocus cameras tend to use parts that are lighter and not as durable as those used on manual cameras.

The good thing with manual cameras is that you can choose the focus, and change around several other settings as well. The manufacturers who create the most manual cameras include Olympus, Pentax, and Nikon. They are well known for their manual SLR cameras. Manual cameras are usually recommended for those who are up for a challenge, as they are obviously not as easy to sue as a camera with autofocus.

Getting the perfect 35mm SLR camera, is never an easy thing, due to the constantly changing technology. Fortunately, there are plenty of helpful websites online, that can narrow down your search and help you find the 35mm camera with all the features important to you.

SLR 35mm Cameras FAQ:

Question: What type of 35mm slr camera should I buy?
I am just thinking about buying a 35mm slr camera. I have seen some for 200 dollars. Do you think that it would be a good camera to start off with? Its a cannon.

Answer: If you are just beginning, you may want to start with an older all manual camera – manual focus, and manual settings for aperture and shutter speed. this would be REALLY cheap (you can probably get a camera and lens on ebay for like $50 – just make sure the camera and internal light meter work) and would be a good way to learn the basics of exposure. If you want something more updated, you could find a nice autofocus/autoexposure body and zoom lens for $200 or so. Canon cameras are usually a good bet; also look into Nikon cameras. You can get some really good deals on these cameras since everyone’s going digital.

Question: What would be a good 35mm SLR Camera to get for my Photography I Class?
I’m starting a Photography I class at my local college. What kind of 35mm SLR camera should I look in to getting?

Answer: Canon or Nikon. Many won’t be able to afford those two most popular and expensive brands so its up to you really. Pentax, Olympus, Kodak, those are great cameras too.

Question: What Canon 35mm SLR camera should I buy?
I recently purchased the Canon EOS 30D DSLR but want to buy a really good film camera also for film photography class purposes. However, I can’t find a good review that describes a Canon 35mm SLR for a serious amateur.

Answer: Canon made some really great 35mm autofocus SLRs. If you want a really good, professional body, look at a Canon EOS 3. A little pricey still, even used.

For a good camera that won’t break your pocketbook, try the Canon EOS Elan 7NE.

A lesser, but still good camera would be the EOS Elan IIE with eye-controlled focus.

Question: Which lenses will fit a Canon 630 35mm SLR camera?
I am buying a Canon 630 35mm SLR camera body, and already have a couple of lenses for the Canon Digital Rebel XTI. Will they be interchangeable? Do I need to buy a seperate lens for the 630?

Answer: Canon EF lenses will fit that body. There is a great selection of used lenses out there since they’re been around since the 80s.

EF-S lenses used on older cheaper Digital cameras like the Digital Rebel should not be used on an older Canon film camera. Newer and more expensive digital Canon’s have a larger Image Sensor and can use the film EF lenses.

Question: What is the difference between a SLR camera and a regular 35mm camera?
Which will take better pic’s? I am looking for either one that is best for my wedding that is coming up less than a month.

Answer: SLR refers to the viewing system – “Single Lens Reflex.” 35 mm refers to the film size. This is the most common film size these days. There are SLR’s that are not 35 mm and 35 mm cameras that are not SLR’s.

If you know very little about photography, it doesn’t matter what you try to use. There is SO much more to wedding photography than the type of camera you use. If it really matters, hire a pro.

Question: What are the benefits of getting a 35mm digital SLR camera?
I’m looking to get a entry-level digital SLR but should I wait until the 35mm sensor cameras come down in price? Is it worth it, because you are more likely to be able to get new lenses in the future for 35mm cameras, but I don’t know whether to wait or not!

Answer: Full framed digital SLR cameras are not going to go down in price much anytime soon. For example, The Canon 40d’s price has not gone down much at all in the last few months despite the release of the 50d- it is still one thousand dollars with a kit lens. Prices haven’t been going down. Get what you want now. Again, the 5d is still just about two thousand dollars body only, it was about that six months ago. Full framed cameras are worth it, but if you can’t afford it now, you aren’t going to be able to afford it for a long time- so get what you can afford.

Question: Where could I get a 35mm slr film camera for under $250 and what kinds are good?
I am taking a photo 1 course and this is my freshman year. I am taking photo 2 next year. I need a good 35mm slr camera for a good price. I heard that the canon eos is good and nikon f series but some of those are really expensive.

Answer: Your best bet is to get a Canon EOS Rebel SLR. You could get the T2 which has a lot to offer, and with a solid name like Canon it’ll be around a long time and have lots of goodies to offer your choice!

Question: What’s the best 35mm SLR camera I can buy for about $500 (brand, quality, tips, accessories, etc.)?

Answer: Nikon FM 10 with a zoom in the range of 50-200mm. Tough, reliable, fully manual, no batteries needed and it will let you focus on learning the core skills and techniques of photography. You may want to buy a lens which will also be fully compatible with DSLRs if you choose to go that route in the future.
